A woman with curly hair and light skin is sitting beside a young girl with dark hair, glasses, and darker skin, in an auditorium. The woman appears to be coaching or mentoring the girl, who is writing in a notebook with a pencil. The auditorium is mostly empty with rows of gray seats, large windows, and an American flag in the background.

Our Mission

Yale Undergraduate Music Mentorship Initiative is a Yale University organization that recruits undergraduate students from a variety of academic disciplines to provide music lessons for students across New Haven, completely free of charge.

For many of our volunteers, music is more than just a hobby. It is a passion that has shaped our lives, teaching us how perseverance and an eagerness to learn can help us achieve even our most ambitious goals.

Ultimately, we seek to make music instruction more equitable, inspiring young musicians and fostering a deeper relationship between Yale and the broader New Haven community.
